Standing Shoulder to Shoulder
The Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans in Canada (ANAVETS) holds the proud distinction of not only being the oldest Veterans organization in the country but research has determined that the ANAVETS are the oldest Veterans organization in the world. Records show that the Army and Navy Veterans in Canada was in existence in Montreal in 1840.
The ANAVETS organization was originally set up as a fraternity club to support Military members and their families. Today it has not only continued that role, but has expanded to include providing a safe and friendly community organization for individuals from all walks of life.
Here in Alberta we have Units in Lethbridge, Calgary, Grand Prairie , Edmonton and Sherwood Park. There are ANAVET Units right across Canada, as well as well as one in the USA, called ANAVICUS.
The Strathcona Unit #99 was established here in Sherwood Park, and received our Charter on Oct. 16, 2003 from Dominion Command. Becoming the youngest Unit of the ANAVETS in Canada at that time.
